We are pleased to be able to present the fully restored source of the Danube to you in picture and sound. Our TV team followed the entire restoration work from 2012 to 2016 and will present background reports and the current history.
MEETING PLACE AT THE SOURCE OF THE DANUBE
The source of the Danube underwent a fundamental and challenging restoration from a technical and heritage conservation point of view from the spring of 2013 to the middle of November 2015. In recent years the source of the River Danube, known as the “Donauquelltopf”, which is sunk into the ground, and its sophisticated sculptures, have increasingly begun crumbling and disintegrating, as the rear seal between the rocks and the soil, itself some 130 years old, has not been working properly for some time. The source of the Danube, which has now been restored to an exceptional quality, is a new meeting place not just for tourists but also for residents of the town and surrounding communities seeking relaxation and entertainment.
